Court Ordered Volunteers

Dallas Public Library proudly supports court ordered volunteers who need community service hours for low-level, non-violent, misdemeanor offenses. A background check is required for all volunteers over 18. 

Dallas Public Library accepts volunteers age 14 and older.


At the discretion of staff, children under the age of 14 may be approved to co-volunteer with a parent or guardian. Both the child and the guardian need to submit a volunteer application.

Consent for Background Check for All Volunteers

I hereby give my permission for the Dallas Public Library to obtain information relating to my criminal history record. The criminal history record, as received from the reporting agency, may include arrest and conviction data as plea bargains and deferred adjudications. I understand that this information will be used, in part, to determine my eligibility for 
volunteer positions within this program. I also understand that as long as I remain a volunteer, the criminal history records check may be repeated at any time. I understand that I will have an opportunity to review the criminal history and a procedure is available for clarification if I dispute the record as received.

Adult Release and Waiver of Liability and Maintaining Confidentiality

I, the undersigned volunteer, understand that as a participant in the Dallas Public Library Volunteer Program, my status with respect to the City of Dallas is that of a volunteer only, and that I am not entitled to any compensation for performance of duties as a volunteer and that I am not entitled to any city employee benefits, of any kind or character, and 
am not covered by any Worker's Compensation program.

Therefore, in consideration of being permitted to participate in the Volunteer Program, I hereby release, discharge and waive any claims or actions of any kind which may arise as a result of any injuries or damages, including but not limited to property damage, bodily injury and death, arising out of or any matter connected with my participation as a volunteer in the Dallas Public Library Volunteer Program.

I acknowledge that I am bound under the regulations of the Texas Open Records Act to maintain the confidentiality of any information I may obtain and that I am subject to penalties under the provisions of this act

Photography Consent Form

The Dallas Public Library uses images of the good work our volunteers do to promote the library and its services. I hereby grant Dallas Public Library permission to take, or have taken, still and moving photographs and films, 
including television pictures, of the person named above, and consent and authorize City of Dallas, its advertising agencies and news media, to use and reproduce such photographs, films or pictures, and to circulate and publicize the same by all means, including newspapers, television media, brochures, library website, pamphlets, instructional materials and books.
